We are looking forward to a fantastic Autumn Term in Year 4 and shall be basing our learning on Prehistory and The Romans.
In the first half term we shall be using a range of artefacts and various other resources to ‘play detective’ to try and work out what Prehistoric and Roman life involved. We will be visiting Shrewsbury Museum for a Prehistory workshop and the local Roman site at Wroxeter to explore life in a Roman city. Poetry, stories with historical settings and information booklets will all be researched and created.
If you are interested in helping on trips and are DBS checked, or in the process of this, then please confirm this with your child’s class teacher.
Our science this term will involve studying sound. We will learn about the different parts of the ear, how humans and other animals hear and things which can affect our hearing.
In addition, we will be beginning our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), where we will learning about the changes that puberty brings to our bodies.
After half term our Design and Technology focus will be designing and making money containers and practising sewing skills.
Outdoor PE sessions with Mr Venn are on Mondays and indoor hall activities are on Wednesdays. (Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit - white or blue polo shirt or tee shirt; black, blue or white shorts and some warm kit for outdoors in winter such as track-suit or jogging bottoms. Straight after half term, Year 4 will start their 5 sessions of swimming.)
Homework in year 4 is daily reading, weekly spelling and learning number facts. Occasionally, your child will be asked to bring in an item related to our topics or do a little research or produce a project over a longer period of time.
We are planning a residential visit in the Spring Term and a letter will soon follow with more details and the cost (which is likely to be around £80).
We hope you and your child enjoy this term’s learning and activities, and we look forward to meeting you at our open classroom event on Monday 18th September.
