Autumn Newsletter - Year 2

Autumn Days

This term in year 2, our curriculum will be based around the theme of autumn. The season of autumn provides us with a range of rich opportunities in English, maths, science and art.

In science, we will be studying the use of everyday materials in an autumnal context, and also studying habitats. In addition, we will be looking at the life cycles of humans as part of our Relationships and Sex Education unit. We will be investigating differences and similarities and challenging gender stereotypes.  A letter will be going out shortly, giving you more information about the Relationships and Sex Education Unit. However, if you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to pop in and have a chat.

We will also be visiting ‘Techniquest’ this term, which will explore the science and D&T aspect of our topic. We will send you further details of the visit shortly.

As you may know, homework this year will be considerably different. There will no longer be set homework tasks. We will instead insist that reading, spellings and timetables are practised at home. Your child will be sent home with a reading book, diary and spellings during the week.

PE will take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday for 2X and Tuesday and Thursday for 2Y. We recommend that your child brings a PE kit into school and leaves it here for the half term. Please check that footwear (pumps/trainers) fits comfortably. We would also suggest warm clothing for outdoor PE e.g. tracksuit/leggings and a warm top.

This year, year 2 are very fortunate to be benefitting from some Forest School sessions. They will take place every Wednesday afternoon for 2Y during the first half of the autumn term, and 2X during the second half. The first session will be on 13th September. Details will be forthcoming.

Please don’t hesitate to come and chat to us about anything you are concerned about, or arrange a meeting via the office.
