I hope that you have all had a restful and relaxing summer break. I am sure the children are ready for the new term ahead; it was lovely to see them all back in school this morning. In particular, I would like to welcome our new reception children into school today. The children will be coming to school for mornings only this week to help them to settle in. I will look forward to getting to know all of our new reception parents and children over the coming months and would like to invite all Coleham parents along to our first coffee morning of the year on Thursday 14th September (8:45am onwards in the Coach House).
As you know, we are now an academy and part of the Priory Multi Academy Trust. We are all really looking forward to working more closely with the Priory School and St Martins School and will keep you updated regarding our collaborative work and the impact that it has on the children at Coleham. Mr Barratt will be visiting Coleham frequently this term and hopes to attend some parent events too later in the term.
Over the holidays, a lot of building work has been going on here at school. We have had new windows fitted in two of our classrooms and new lighting has been installed in four Key Stage 2 classrooms, making the learning environments much improved in these classrooms. We have also improved our lobby area, making it larger for visitors and even more secure. As normal, please report to Mrs Moore or Mrs Jasper in the office when arriving at school – only visitors who have signed in will be given access through the inner security doors.
We have also nearly completed the building work to create our new classroom in the conservation area. We are very excited about the new classroom, which will be used by children during forest school, Science, Geography and outdoor learning sessions. It will also provide an extra learning space for EYFS children to use and for the After School Club. We hope that the work will be complete by October half term and we apologise for the delay. Please rest assured that the site has been checked by our Health and Safety advisor and that we will, of course, keep the children well away from the area and from any work vehicles.
There are a number of staffing changes, which I would like to make you aware of this term. Firstly, Mr Edwards, who teaches in Year 6, will be leading the Year 5/6 team with Mrs Brazier leading the whole of Key Stage 2 and Mr Larkham leading Key Stage 1. We are delighted to welcome Mrs Rowley back from maternity leave as our EYFS leader and reception teacher alongside Miss Harris, who returned to work just before the summer holidays. Mrs Stennett returned from maternity leave just before the end of last term and, as previously, is teaching pupils in 3Y.
If you have any concerns at all over the coming year, please contact your child's class teacher. You are also very welcome to contact the relevant phase leader either via telephone or via email if you have any concerns, as we are keen to address any issues quickly and efficiently. Here are the relevant email addresses of the different phase leaders:
EYFS - Mrs Rowley (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Years 1 and 2 - Mr Larkham (email@example.com)
Years 3 and 4 - Mrs Butler (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Years 5 and 6 - Mr Edwards (email@example.com)
Of course, Mrs Brazier and myself are also available to discuss any worries or concerns that you might have. Mrs Brazier's email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org and my email address can be found on the letterhead on the previous page.
I would like to invite you all into school on 18th September to an open classroom event, which will give you the opportunity to discuss how your child has settled into their new class and gain some feedback from your child's new class teacher. I hope to see you at this event.
Finally, I would like to let you know that over the holidays we have created a new Coleham School website, which we hope will be live very soon. The new site is much improved and will include regular updates of forthcoming events in the calendar section, copies of letters sent home, news events etc. In addition to these new sections on the website, much of the same information that was on our old website will also remain on the new website for your information.
I will look forward to seeing you all around school over the coming weeks and look forward to a busy and action packed Autumn term.
