Co-Opted Governor Vacancy

We are looking for a new Governor.  If you think you might be interested, take a look at the advert here!



This is an exciting but challenging time for schools.  Being a Governor is a rewarding and effective way of making a voluntary contribution to your community and to children’s education. Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Body.  They may live or work in the community served by the school, have a keen interest in education and can offer skills and expertise to the current Governing Body.

What are Governors?

Governors have three key roles:

  1. to provide strategic leadership to the school.
  2. holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils.
  3. overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Essential Attributes

  • Committed to improving education and welfare for all pupils.
  • Willing to devote time, enthusiasm and effort to the duties of and responsibilities of a governor.
  • Able to work in a professional manner, avoiding conflicts, acting with transparency and integrity.
  • Able to question and challenge, working as part of a team.
  • A strong communicator and committed to building strong collaborative relationships.


 Desirable skills or experience

  • Experience of working in the public sector or Governance/Board roles.
  • Understanding of current national curriculum/assessment.
  • Understanding of special educational needs and disabilities
  • Financial management expertise
  • HR/legal policy and processes
  • Ability to analyse/interpret data
  • Strategic planning

Training and support will be provided to the new governor.
