I have been on the Governing Body since September 2010, when I took up the post of Deputy Headteacher here at Coleham Primary School, having worked in two other schools in Trafford Local Authority prior to this. I took over as Headteacher in January 2014. The Governing Body at Coleham focuses on the strategic leadership of the school and works very closely alongside myself and my leadership team to drive the school forward and to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.
I have lived in Belle Vue for most of my adult life and have been a parent and grandparent of children at the school for many years now. I am passionate about children having the best start in life and about parents being able to find support when they need it. As a governor, I have a lead role around the Early Years Foundation Stage and Safeguarding and Child Protection. I have degrees in Social Psychology and Management & Leadership and work with children and families for Shropshire Council. If you wish to contact me please do so c/o Coleham School.
I have been Vice-Chair for a number of years and, until recently, was Acting Chair. I am privileged to work with a team of Governors with a variety of skills, knowledge & expertise to strategically lead and support the school. Our journey has seen the school convert to an Academy within The Priory School Trust; we are fully committed to ensuring that Coleham retains its unique identity whilst benefiting from the opportunities that collaborating with local schools brings. I have three children, one of whom is at Coleham. I am a Director of a Land & Planning Consultancy and support the school in property and health and safety matters.
I have worked at Coleham Primary School for 16 years and, in that time, I have taught in Years 2, 3, 4 and 6. I am KS2 Leader with responsibilities for Behaviour, Literacy and Assessment. Working with the Governing Body is a key part of my role, to ensure the school is continually moving forward towards it's vision and ensuring successful outcomes for all of our children.
I have been working at Coleham for over twenty years. During this time I have seen a number of changes, however one thing that remains a constant is 'the coleham vibe' which shines through all of our staff and children. I am proud to say that it has always been Coleham's ethos to celebrate all successes, no matter how small and whether they be academic, sporting, creative or personal achievements. I lead a highly skilled and dedicated team of Learning Mentors and Teaching Assistants and enjoy my role within The Pastoral Care Team.
I work for Shropshire Council, as an advisor leading on personal, social and health education.
I have supported schools and those working with children and young people on safeguarding, health and wellbeing issues for over thirty years, working at local, regional and national level and sit on two national groups. My background is in youth and community work and health education. I live in Belle Vue and have supported the school in various ways including being an active members of Friends of Coleham when my daughter was at school.
I am a long time resident of Belle Vue and former Coleham pupil, as were my three daughters. I became the first elected Parent Governor when my girls were at the school. For some 15 years, I have served as a Councillor for the Belle Vue Ward, first on the SABC District Council and more recently on its successor, Shrewsbury Town Council, of which I was the first Mayor. I have always been and still am very active in the cultural life of the town and county through organisations such as The Shropshire Art Society and The Gateway, as well as locally with the Belle Vue Arts Festival, established some 12 years ago by my late wife, Judy. I am able to bring my knowledge of Belle Vue and its people, together with my experience as teacher, Deputy Head teacher and volunteer advice worker with CAB, to my work as a Governor. My overriding concern will always be to ensure that Coleham School remains a successful and thriving educational establishment at the heart of our community.
I have two children at Coleham and, as a Parent Governor, try to provide a parental viewpoint at the Governing Body meetings. My working background includes work in schools, initially as a secondary Geography teacher and then managing an education charity. I now work as a project manager for a charity. I have an interest in the humanities, the arts (particularly music and the visual arts), ethics and diversity.
I moved to the Belle Vue area of Shrewsbury from Nottingham with my wife in 2008. We have two children at Coleham Primary School. My professional background is in broadcast media and I spent over seven years making programmes about schools across England for Teachers TV. I also freelance as an eLearning developer and have worked as an administrator for virtual learning environments. I’m very pleased to be in a position to represent parents on the Governing Body. My particular interest is in ICT and I’m keen to draw upon my professional experience and work with Coleham stakeholders to best implement its use across the school.
I live in Belle Vue, am retired and have a 30 year background of employment in planning and managing public sport, leisure and cultural services. I hope to draw on my experience in local government senior leadership roles to do my best to assist the Local Governing Body fulfill its functions to help ensure an excellent education for every child at the school.
I am a specialist teacher of children with social, emotional, mental health and medical needs in Shrewsbury. Over the last 13 years, I have taught in three mainstream primary schools across Shropshire, holding responsibility for Special Educational Needs in each school (SENDCO). I am passionate about education and inclusion and getting the balance right so that children enjoy learning.
My two girls go to Coleham; one is in Reception, the other in year 1 and they love it. I also have fond memories of Coleham School from my time as a pupil many moons ago. As a long-standing member of the Belle Vue community, I have seen steady positive change at Coleham School over the years. As Coleham continues to move forwards, I hope to serve the governing body in any way I can, acting as a critical friend and ambassador.
This is my third year teaching at Coleham Primary School (currently in Year 5). I feel very privileged to be working here at Coleham and was first attracted to its creative approach to teaching the curriculum. My aim as Teacher Governor is to ensure that we are moving forward as a school and that all pupils establish a good grounding and confidence whilst beginning their journey through education and life.
